Helford River Cruises’ Tom and Hetty are busy preparing for some fabulous boat trips in Thailand. Last year we cruised around the floating villages of Halong Bay in Vietman. The stunning Limestone mountains make a beautiful back drop to the brightly coloured boats and floating huts.
We also enjoyed a lantern cruise in Hoi An, with 2,000 years history, this was the principal port of the Cham Kingdom, which controlled the strategic spice trade with Indonesia from the 7th to the 10th century and was a major international port in the 16th and 17th centuries. Foreign influences are still evident to this day with a delicious mix of food set in a traditional port. A real surprise and treat in the middle of Vietnam!
The lanterns are sold by the riverside. People make a wish whilst setting the lanterns afloat on the river.
Venturing down to Thailand we came across a cruise to ‘The Beach,’ filmed in the Leonardo di Caprio film. The beach is on the small nature reserve island Phi Phi Don, which made up of limestone mountains and has a stand of flat beach land running through the middle.
Looking forward to more magical moments on the water as we explore more in Thailand this year.
Helford River Cruises will be closed from the 23rd December to 24th January 2015. We will still be taking orders for gift vouchers throughout January and hope to start up Helford River Cruises in March 2015.
Happy Christmas and a New Year everyone!
