Wildlife on The Helford

We get to see an abundance of wildlife on our cruises and even though we can not guarantee sightings, here are some of the species we have seen...

Little Egrets

The little egret is a small white heron with attractive white plumes on crest, back and chest, black legs and bill and yellow feet.

Grey Heron

A tall, often solitary bird, the Grey Heron is one of the UK's most familiar birds. We are fortunate to have a natural heronry on Polwheveral Creek.

Cormorant

The Cormorant is a large, black, fish-eating bird with a long, hook-tipped bill. They can be seen on both coastal and inland waters.

Common Buzzard

The common buzzard is a medium-to-large bird of prey which has a large range and are often seen above the creeks.

Kingfisher

These distinctive birds are often seen as a blue flash whilst hunting for fish. They' re small, bright blue and orange birds of slow moving or still water.

Common & Grey Seals

On occasions we get to see these amazing large mammals on the Helford and on Polwheveral Creek.

Dolphins

A few times each year we get to see these incredible aquatic mammals including common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins & risso dolphins.
